We should have scored more runs! The openers did great (Irv 29 and Keeran 71), but the rest of us….oh dear….only Vitlesh made it to double figures. With help from some decent Bexley Park bowling and a pitch that was not a straightforward as we would have liked, numbers 3 to 11 simply couldn’t find a way to stick around long enough to support Keeran.
Once Bexley Park had a go on the pitch, it seemed to have lost some of the variable bounce that plagued our innings. All the bowlers looked like they might be able to dislodge Bexley batters, indeed Jon did get 3 of them, but too many full tosses took the pitch out of the equation and whenever Bexley’s scoring rate was pegged back, there always seemed to be an out ball just around the corner. The fielding was quirky at times, but tough on a frictionless outfield and we succumbed, disappointingly to a second defeat of the season against a well-matched opponent. Vik bowled an absolute worldy to take his wicket, Bushy unsettled the batsmen, James was disappointed to see nobody try to take a catch of his bowling despite him shouting catch it before it whistled straight past him, and Vik’s hat certainly didn’t behave itself appropriately. The one really consistent bright spot in the field was Vitlesh’s exemplary keeping, with a stumping, a catch and zero byes – excellent work behind the stumps, and at one point with his own behind to ball that turned and spat
We’re back at the Meadow next week to take on league leaders Simba – could be tricky, but who knows what we can pull off on home soil.
