Greenwich won the toss and elected to bat against an OEs XI without most of their top order this week (all complaints to be directed to the Duke of Edinburgh).
Ben & Rocco, aided by Yuvan taking up the keeping gloves, opened the bowling and set the tone with a couple of wickets apiece. Sameer & Jeynan kept the scoring rate in check at first change, while Randy & Shubh rolled in with more wickets at second change. Valuable experience in the middle for Benas & Maksim, before Greenwich, aided by a couple of run outs, got all out for a competitive score of 116.
It was always going to be the job of the top order to see it through, and so it was this match too, but not without early jitters with Xav trapped deep in his crease to a classic slow and low College Meadow delivery and Fin & Randy both bowled first ball to some very accurate opening bowling from Greenwich. With the score at 6/3 chasing 117, Ben & Rocco as the remaining top order batters had to rebuild, respecting the many good balls while putting away the odd but frequent bad delivery.
Rocco fell with exactly half the total remaining, mistiming his shot in an attempt to clear the in-field, which brought Yuvan to the crease to steer what was left of the chase with Ben.
What followed was a very competent 40-run partnership to get the total close to three figures and well within reach of the target. With Ben retiring for a very well-made 50*, it was left to Yuvan to see it through with Jeynan, which they did with just the right balance of watchfulness and intent, leaving 10 balls to spare (and an unbeaten Ben in the hut!)
